In brief: Large baby,Low sugar

Idm (infant from diabetic mother) tend to be 'big babies' (macrosomic).
A large infant is more difficult to deliver so ob's are 'on the alert' for complications. These infants initially tend to have low blood sugars when born and need to be monitored closely. Long term these infants may be @ risk for diabetes themselves.
