What is the treatment for a fracture of neck of femur?

Surgery. In a young person with a femoral neck fracture the fracture should be fixed with screws in an anatomical position. This can be done in some circumstances through small incisions but a large formal incision may be required to get the fracture aligned in perfect position.
Partial or total hip. Replacement if it is displaced. If it is just a crack and not shifted out of position surgery can be done with three screws to keep the femoral head from shifting. Usually it is displaced and needs a replacement because once it shifts the blood supply to the head is irreversibly damaged.
Pinning or ORIF. Percutaneously pinning of the femur or open reduction and internal fixation of the femur.
