I suffered a lcl knee injury playing soccer. I don't want surgery but I want to be able to play again?

Unlikely. Actually, a tear of the fibular collateral component of the lcl and posterolateral complex of the knee does not heal on its own. Unlike the mcl, which can heal on its own, the fibular collateral tear will need to be reconstructed in order to control rotation and stability if the knee. The exception is when we are able to repair some tears within 2-3 weeks if injury. See your sports sub-specialist.
Brace. A lateral (fibular) collateral ligament injury can be treated in a hinged knee brace x 6 wks followed by strengthening and return to activities in 8-12 weeks. Stress xrays can help determine if it heals correctly. However, this is commonly associated with other ligament injuries and usually needs to be surgically reconstructed in this setting. That requires a wait of 1 year to return to sport.

So I had sergury on my knee on my meniscus. I camw back to play soccer over 2 years without playing. Second game I play my knee starts hurting again.?

Rest. If you've been away from a sport for 2 years, chances are you are deconditioned, and an injury can occur regardless of whether you had meniscus surgery or not. I recommend resting initially, then easing back into sports (especially soccer which is full of pivoting). Work on building quad strength, hamstring flexibility. In these first few weeks of renewed exercise, be cautious! Read more...
See your surgeon. Pain with return to activity commonly results from insufficient/improper rehabilitation. Best to see your surgeon, have your knee evaluated, and determine if you simply need a better course of rehab or if there is another issue (eg non-healing of meniscal repair, further tearing, articular cartilage injury that could have progressed, ligament insufficiency). If in doubt get a second opinion. Read more...
