How common is it to need to have surgery for a MCL tear?

Orthopedic Surgery
In brief: Very uncommon
The mcl (medial collateral ligament) tears outside of the knee joint.
Because of this, the torn fibers are close enough to each other that they almost always heal and scar down own their own. In rare cases where there is persistent instability (looseness), we can repair or reconstruct the mcl.
