In brief: Expired

Using any medication beyond the expiration date is never recommended.
Vistaril (hydroxyzine) has been shown to be effective for mild to moderate anxiety, but is not fda approved for such, and may have other side effects, such as sedation, memory disturbance, dry mouth, constipation, or urinary retention. This is especially not recommended in the elderly or persons with dementia.

In brief: Perhaps

There's the medication that expired yesterday.
That should have 90% of the potency of a new pill. There's the medication that expired last year. Who knows what's left in that one? Medications lose potency faster when kept in warm, damp locations or are exposed to light. They generally don't become poisonous with age, just ineffective. Please call you physician for a timely visit & a refill.
