Does cortaid (hydrocortisone) only work for helping itching or does it help getting rid of rashes also?

In brief: Mild relief

Cortaid (hydrocortisone)/hydrocorisone is a fairly weak topical steroid, and can help with milder itching and rashes caused by allergies, eczema and skin sensitivities.
If you're pretty sure you know the cause, it's fine to try Cortaid (hydrocortisone) first, and if that doesn't work, see your doc for a stronger steroid by rx. If you aren't sure that it isn't an infection, get checked first, because steroids can worsen infections.
