In brief: Zithromax

First.See your primary care provider to be sure of the proper diagnosis.
Then be sure to take prescription exactly as prescribed.

In brief: No real "cure"

Whooping cough, or pertussis, is a highly contageous respiratory disease caused by a certain bacteria.
In many cases, it can be prevented by an available immunization, but not 100% (effectiveness suggested at 71% to 85%). This immunity is also not lifelong so boosters may be needed. There are several antibiotics that may decrease symptoms and duration of infectiveness.

In brief: Antibiotics

Typically we treat with azithromycin, but if allergic you can take bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim).
Treatment is also different for children under 1 year old.
