In brief: By 12 weeks

Usually one feels pain relief in terms of leg pain immediately but about 10% can have ongoing back pain with 5% recurrence hnp rate- to minimize need to restrict rotation flexion and prolonged positioning for 12 weeks and do core exercises and cardiovascular exercise.
If yiur back pain was more than your leg pain preop you may have needed a fusion with or instead of microdisectomy or no surgery.
