In brief: Not usually
Carpal tunnel syndrome (cts) typically causes numbness, tingling and/or pain in the thumb, index long and ring fingers.
Occasionally these symptoms will run up the arm anteriorly, cross the elbow and go into the shoulder, armpit or neck. Elbow pain is more likely tendinitis, tennis or golfers elbow. Try ice and anti-inflammatory medications. If you don't improve, see an orthopaedic hand doctor.

In brief: No
It will not progress like that.
It is caused by compression of the median nerve under the transverse carpal ligament. It causes problems with the nerve distal to that, not proximal to it.
