What to expect in the final stages of metastasis for somebody with lung cancer?

End of life. Towards the last days in any cancer patients life it really is about the same. They are kept comfortable with pain meds, they quit eating, growing weaker, sleep more. When they are awake they usually have pain so more meds are given and hence they sleep more and more. At the very end their breathing becomes irregular and noisy...And then eventually stops.Hopefully they have passed peacefully.
Novo TTF. The fda (us food and drug administration) has approved a new treatment for patients as an alternative to chemotherapy. The promising new non-invasive treatment by novocure uses "tumor treating fields" (novottf) to treat cancerous growths and is now available for adult patients with recurring brain tumors (recurrent glioblastoma or gbm). This is latest for cancer rx and is being used other cancers.

What is metastasis and at what stage during the devolopment of lung cancer does it start to occur?

Spread of the tumor. Metasteses means the tumor cells spread from where the tumor starts to other places. Lung cancer can go to bones, the brain, liver, and other. Hard to say when/if it happens during the course of the disease. Read more...
Distant spread. A tumor is said to have metastasized when it spreads to a distant site through lymphatics or blood vessels. The molecular changes in the tumor associated with ability to metastasize vary with different tumors and are not clearly defined. In some types of lung cancers, metastases can occur even before cancer becomes detectable by x-ray. Read more...

Hi, I am ngoan, vietnamese. My moon have a lung cancer and metastasis in bony. She will do chemo on this december 17. Can she use fucoidan? Thanks

Go ahead. Suit yourself and don't spend too much money on it. If you possess a basic knowledge of bioscience, you'll realize that essentially all the work that "shows effects of fucoidan" is done on cell cultures, not living organisms. This has been going on for thirty years with weak animal work appearing only in obscure no-impact journals. Do you want to give your money to people who mislead others? Read more...

Metastasis noted in bone in pelvic region. Now person is noted as stage 4 lung cancer given about 3 months to live. How accurate is this prognosis?

Possibly. Metastasis to bone from any tumor/malignancy is stage4= distant metastasis= spread beyond margins. Prognosis is guarded, depending on originating type. Some metastasis respond to removal or control of primary thyroid and renal come to mind. Read more...

Many rt. Paratracheal/mediastinal, bilateral hilar nodes consistent w/metastasis. Right subcarinal metastatic node mass 3cm. Max suv 9.1. Lung cancer?

Needs Biopsy. Is there a known primary cancer? If not, you will need a biopsy of one of the nodes. Your doctor may suggest a mediastinoscopy and biopsy to get a tissue specimen. There are other causes of mediastinal node enlargement such as infection and sarcoidosis so it is important to make a definite diagnosis. Good luck. Read more...
You report. Part of the story (do you smoke, is there a lung lesion, has there been a biopsy?), and the pet findings mean something is not right, from a benign oddity called sarcoid, to lymphoma, to lung cancer. Share your concern with the doctor ordering the pet scan, and if for whatever reason you mistrust the doctor, get a second opinion. Read more...
Biopsy. There are several benign as well as malignant cause of that picture. Bronchoscope and mediastinoscopy are usually diagnostic and low risk. If already proven malignant then primary may be suggested by the histology. Abdominal ct can be helpful to rule out pancreas or bowel lesions. Read more...
