Are there carrier testing available for thyroid diseases? Curious as to whether i'll get thyroid disease sometime.
Thyroid. There is no genetic test per se, but the existence of thyroid antibodies forebodes development of thyroid dysfunction eventually. Kinda like the red light going on in your car.
No crystal balls. Labs tests can show whether or not someone makes antibodies that target the thyroid proteins. If antibodies are present, a person has an increased risk of developing thyroid disease over the next several years, but many people with antibodies have normal thyroid levels all their lives. And not having antibodies doesn't mean that they won't have antibodies (and thyroid disease) in the future.
