In brief: Depends
The answer would really depend on your type of glaucoma.
The most common 'open angle glaucoma' typically occurs later in life. However, other types, such as narrow angle glaucoma can occur much earlier. Lastly, if you are very near-sighted, it is possible that your near-sightedness is causing damage to the optic nerve, mimicking glaucoma, and does not really need to be treated.

In brief: It's in the genes
Glaucoma is an inherited disease.
You inherit a gene from each parent. Glaucoma, while more common in older people, can begin at any age. This is why the test for glaucoma is part of a routine eye examination.
