Is it true that nearsighted people won't need reading glasses when they get older?

In brief: Possibly

It depends on how nearsighted you are.
If only a little or a lot then you may still need glasses for reading. If you happen to have an amount of myopia (nearsightedness) in the same range as what you would need for readers than you would not. The natural nearsightedness would then offset the loss of reading vision (presbyopia).
