In brief: Both
Ovulation occurs 14 days before the onset of the next menstrual cycle.
A 28 day period for example produces a day 14 ovulation. A 32 day cycle= day 18 ovulation. Cycle length normally varies between 26 and 35 days. A late period can also mean early pregnancy as well.
