12-15 hours per day. On average, an infant will sleep roughly 12-15 hours per day. For most babies, that will be a combination of 10-12 hours at night and 2-4 hours of napping throughout the day.
Newborn Sleep. A newborn may sleep 16 to 20 hours per day, some days they sleep less and they "catch up" the next day. Let your baby sleep as long as he wants as long as he are feeding every 2 to 3 hours , and you are getting at least 6 wet diapers per day. Make sure you put your baby on his back to sleep. Use tummy time when he is awake and supervised.
16-18 hours. Most newborns sleep that much. Just make sure the baby eats at least every four hours, so it might be necessary to wake the baby up.
16-20 hours. The textbook newborn sleeps up to 21 hours a day. Not every baby does. Some sleep 12 -16 hours. As long as the baby is happy and growing all is well. If your baby is not sleeping because he/she is unhappy, gassy, then see your pediatrician.
