Barrett's esophagus is a response to chronic reflux.
Esoph cells start to look like stomach or intestinal cells. Problem is there still in the esophagus. They don't resist acid etc, as well, can predispose to esoph ca (10000x nl, but only 1% barrett's cases). Problem is sometimes pts with barrett's don't have heartburn. Chronic and/or frequent, and/or severe sx, see your doc; consider scope.
