In brief: 2 types
Type 1 diabetes does involve the lack of production of Insulin from the pancreas.
This usually affects children and young adults. Type 2 diabetes develops as a results of Insulin resistance, usually related to obesity. You have plenty of Insulin in type 2. Both lead to excess sugar in the blood as the cells are not able to get sugar into the cells to burn as fuel or store for later.
