Usually the stay for a standard mitral valve surgery is about 4-6 days.
But this can vary a lot. Much of this variability is probably due to how ill the patient is before surgery. Also patients who receive a mechanical valve need to be started on warfarin (blood thinner) which can take a few days to adjust the dosage. Also minimally invasive often reduces stay by about a day.
