In brief: Minor Surgery

A lumpectomy is usually performed under twilight anesthesia, so you will not be aware of the operation.
After surgery, you will probably notice a "black-and-blue" type of soreness that should be well controlled with non-narcotic pain medication (i am a big fan of ibuprofen). Most people return to work in a few days and are back to normal activities in a week. Of course, check with your surgeon.
