Swollen supraclavicular lymph node, one side. Why?

Needs evaluation. Enlarged lymph nodes can be reactive, responding to some infection for example, or reflect the presence of cancer. Isolated enlargement of a supraclavicular node can be from infection or other benign causes, but it is unusual. This should be checked out by a physician and possibly be biopsied.

What to do if I have a supraclavicular lymph node (left clavicle), why could it be swollen?

Monitoring Centers. Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts. They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They shrink when all is well. Read more...

Dr said mono. Left supraclavicular lymph node swollen several weeks. Had ct scan, all ok. Worried as read those lymph node are bad when swollen.

Biopsy Virchow's Nod. The L supraclavicular node is particularly worrisome. Due to the drainage of the lymphatic system, Virchow's node (as it is known) is commonly the first node that enlarges in cancers of the chest, abdomen, legs, & left arm. Scans can be negative & miss cancer, especially since they are anatomical scans, not functional ones (small cancers can be missed). Biopsy or PET recommended. TTYD or HT Prime. Read more...

My left supraclavicular lymph node is big hard. Why only one side?

Cannot tell. A large supraclavicular node may be due to many different things, and whether it needs to be biopsied depends on whether "hard" means stony hard, whether it is fixed to underlying tissues, tender, continuing to enlarge, how long it has been there and many other things will influence decision-making. See your doctor and get this taken care of. Read more...

My four-year-old has a ear infection and and an URI. He has a slightly palpable supraclavicular lymph node in one side. Is this normal?

Yes. Small palpable nodes in kids are commonly found throughout the head & neck, including the supraclavicular area. These can arise from non specific illnesses, immunizations, or local events like a bug bite. These commonly enlarge and shrink over a 3-4 wk period to a resting size between that of a pea or small peanut. Larger/painful or those that seem to have poorly defined margins deserve close eval. Read more...
