In brief: Bracing or Surgery

Typically, treatment for scoliosis is reserved for the pediatric population as this is the time it tends to get worse due to growth.
Most patients with scoliosis can be treated with observation and exercises. Some with more significant scoliosis will need bracing to decrease the chances of getting worse. Only in the most severe cases is surgery necessary to prevent the progression.

In brief: Most don't

Most diopathic scoliosis do not progress to the point of needing surgery or bracing.
This chance is greatest in the pediatric population when there is still growth with the majority just observed & some with progressing curve or large enougb curve to worry about are braced. In adults, curves over 50 degrees will usually progress & ones in lower back may cause issues. Watch bone density loss.

Your Orthopedic surgeon can keep track of the curve to see if it is progressing and needs attention. Early on if it is progressing bracing may be attempted, sometimes surgery is the best option. Changing shoe wear, exercises and other home remedies ( like in Forest Gump) rarely work. Its hard to fight mother nature.
