In brief: Call ahead and ask

If the center will allow the patient to control the breast compression herself during mammography.
Tell them ahead of the exam that you are very sensitive. But understand that the more compression applied the better the examination and the technologist will try to get you to the point of maximum compression. Having a mammogram the week after you get your period should minimize discomfort.

In brief: Mammogram

All mammograms require breast compression, so there may be some discomfort for a few seconds, but it shouldn't be painful.
Some facilities use disposable pads to try and minimize discomfort. You can call around your area and ask if they use these.

In brief: Mammogram

In order to obtain the best mammographic images, the technologist needs to compress the breasts which can, unfortunately, be painful or uncomfortable.
