In brief: It varies
Claudication is leg pain with walking.
It can come from blocked arteries (vascular claudication). If the block is severe, the health of the leg can be compromised. Neurogenic claudication comes from narrowed space for the nerves in the low back. If that tightness (stenosis) is severe, nerve function can be permanently damaged. Milder cases of both types of claudication may not threaten tissues.
