Why should one use a bronchodilator before a corticosteroid spray?

In brief: Older recommendation

We used to recommend a patient take an inhaled bronchodilator before to try to open up the airways so more of the steroid would make it to its target.
This, however, was really more theoretical and has not proven necessary, when studied for any potential difference. Many patients use a combination inhaler, taking both at the same time, for convenience.
