Yes, life is sometimes unfair. Usually the problem is the nut. Traditionally pesto is made with pine nut. Commercially walnuts, a more common nut allergen, is used. I have also seen garlic and olive oil allergies. If the problem is truly the basil try substituting cilantro or spinach. Both are good. Bueno appetito.
