Yes. Thrush is a possible with Advair Diskus (salmeterol and fluticasone) use.
More Susceptible. Using inhalers doesn't give you thrush, but the inhaled steroids and powders can make it more likely that the yeast that causes thrush will over-grow causing an infection. That's why it's best to rinse your mouth out after using your inhaler, no matter what medicine it contains.
How long do you have to use advair diskus (salmeterol and fluticasone) to get a broncho-protection against methacholine?
One month. I typically wait for one month for a new medication to take full effect before assessing a response.
My son played with my advair diskus (salmeterol and fluticasone) it was at 55 now at 50? If I take it will I get too much dose or is this diskus now garbage....
Its ok. He probably just wasted 5 dose. When you inhale see if it tastes the same. Keep him away from the medication!

Asthma Controller. Advair diskus (salmeterol and fluticasone) is used to treat asthma, it is an inhaled medication that has a steroid (fluticasone) which reduced lung inflammation and long acting salmeterol which relaxes airway muscles and improves breathing. Advair comes in 2 inhaler forms, hfa and diskus.
Up in the Air. There are not sufficient data one way or the other to say specifically that advair won't harm your baby. As a general rule, inhaled medications are somewhat safer than pills or liquids because the levels in the blood are not as high for inhaled medications. Your doctor can help determine if your lung disease severity outweighs the potential risk to your baby.
Yes. This is a combination "controller" medication for preventing asthma attacks and for improving overall respiration between attacks. It is for moderate to severe cases and should be used only under the guidance of a physician.
Decrease sensitivity. Salmeterol is a long acting bronchodilator that will decrease the bronchial muscle respnsiveness to the methacholine challenge. The purpose of the challenge is to replicate bronchial muscle reactivity, which if high, is consistent with asthma. Therefore, if Advair is used, there is a significantly decreased chance of appropriately diagnosing asthma based on the result. Good luck!
Yes. Both the steroid and long acting bronchodilator would likely produce a false-negative test. The minimum one must stay off of Advair would be 2 weeks. On the other hand, if one were to check how the medication works, one can compare the response before and after starting Advair- mostly done in research setting.
After ICS. The easiest answer is to prescribe combination inhalers like advair in patients for whom simple inhaled steroids have been ineffective. It is not uncommon to go straight to combination inhalers if the situation warrants, however.
Moderate disease. If you are having symptoms more than twice a week or at night, you probably need to be on a steroid inhaler, od which advair is one. If you are on a steroid inhaler and have symptoms, adding a long acting beta agonist (the sere vent part of advair)helps.
? There aren't many reasons to do a methacholine challenge in people taking Advair 500. Make sure you're seeing a board-certified allergist to help you get maximum control of your asthma.
