I have a swollen lymph node in my arm pit it's causing some discomfort and is painful at times. Is this serious/other symptoms I should look for?

In brief: Behavior over time
This may not be a lymph node.
Other things under the arm swell and get painful. If there is clear redness, warmth, pain and discharge or a central "plug" to the lesion with a very superficial appearance this is very likely benign. If there is progressive enlargement without the signs above it is time to see a doc.
