In brief: Sclero, laser, strip

Depends on the varicose veins.
Very large veins need to be treated with vein stripping or evlt or evrt (endovascular laser therapy or endovascular radio freq therapy). Small veins can be treated with sclerotherapy. Very small veins can be treated with a yag laser. Loose weight, avoid pregnancy, avoid prolonged standing and choose your parents carefully....Ie, nothing works well for prevention!

In brief: Chronic condition

In addition to dr. King's advice, vein dysfunctiin is progressive and chronic.
An ultrasound that accesses venous reflux is important as baseline to compare to after a vein treatment.

In brief: Treatment

The only way to get get of varicose veins is to treat them. This can be done in a number of ways, depending on the size and location of your veins.
Often a combination of things, incluidng endovenous thermal ablation, phlebectomy, and sclerotherapy is used. Once successfully treated, nothing can guaranteee that you will never get another varicose veins again, but compression stockings help.

In brief: Close leaking valves

Varicose veins are a result of malfunctioning valves usually in the saphenous system. The first step in treatment would be to obtain a venous reflux ultrasound to make the diagnosis and help plan treatment which could be laser or radiofreqency closure of the valves usually with microphlebectomies and possible sclerotherapy or ultrasound directed sclerotherapy.
You should see a vein specialist.

In brief: Treatment depends

Treatment depends on the exact details of your specific vein abnormalities.
Evaluation by a physician who is dedicated to caring for this disease is followed by a detailed ultrasound map, which must be done with the patient standing. Then a specific treatment plan can be developed. This will typically begin with laser or rf ablation of the deepest abnormal veins. Ligation and stripping is obsolete.

In brief: Varicose veins

the question is as to why you have the varicose veins.
Evaluation by venous Doppler-sonogram would identify if there is no underlying source in the lower extremity, and if so this should be addressed. If these are just spider type veins, these are more common in women due to hormonal changes, and localized therapy with sclerotherapy is effective to treat but not prevent further spider veins.
