In brief: Diverticulum
Zenker's diverticulum has been described as a "throat hernia".
It is a pouch off the anatomical weak point in your hypopharynx and is associated with pain, pressure, swallowing problem, aspiration, infection, and other symptoms - not likely fatality. An upper GI contrast exam can be diagnostic. Surgical repairs (myotomy, pexy or stapling) are helpful in avoiding complication.
