In brief: Depends on cause

An irregular cycle isn't necessarily dangerous, but if chronically it can lead to problems with fertility down the road.
It may be associated with something called polycystic ovary disease, which causes weight gain, infertility, and excess hair growth. See your doctor to make sure everything is in order. It's important to find the cause.

In brief: Maybe long term risk

If you're young & not trying to conceive it's not dangerous in the short term. Very irregular periods, like 4 or less periods a year, over a long period of time (years) can increase the risk of a type of uterine cancer.
If you have acne or unwanted hair get tested for pcos which can cause diabetes. Birth control pills regulate your periods and may make your cramps better. If ttc see a fertility md.
