My 2.5 year old was just covered in fire ants. How much children's Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can he have and is there anything else I can do for relief?

In brief: Fire ant relief

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) dose for his age (assuming he's about 30 lbs) would be seven (7) ml every 6 hours.
If he weighs significantly more, repost question/add comment with his actual weight for dose adjustment. Children's advil/motrin will help pain & inflammation; dose for his age is also seven (7) ml but every 6-8 hours. Cool compresses may help soothe, too.
