No, but. You won't necessarily burn a hole in your retina, but you can easily damage the rods and cones which are the basis for vision. Without them, you don't see.
Low energy scanner. The laser scanners that scan the bar codes are very low energy and are unlikely to damage your eyes. Also they have protective filters. I have only seen one case in 28 years of practice and that was with an early model scanner that malfunctioned back in the 1980s.
