In brief: Presbyacusis
Presbyacusis (like presbyopia) is a form of sensorineural deafness where it becomes increasingly difficult to understand speech.
In other words speech discrimination is lost/diminished.

Presbycussis is the hearing loss of aging. There are at least 4 types as described by the late Dr. Harold F. Shucknecht. Sensory presbycussis is characterized by a progressive high frequency hearing loss where the discrimination for speech is quite good. Neural presbycussis involves both hair cells and the neurons and discrimination is poor. Finally, strial presbycussis has very good discrim.
