I've been told that corticosteroids can cause cushing's disease. Is this true?

In brief: Not exactly

Corticosteroid can cause cushing's syndrome but not cushing's disease.
Cushing's syndrome is when you have too much steroids in your system which can happen if you take too much corticosteroid. Cushing's disease is caused by a tumor in the pituitary that causes the adrenal to produce too much cortisol (steroid).

please keep in mind cushing disease is very different than cushing syndrome. I have never heard of a case where cushing DISEASE is caused by steroids. If you have cushing disease, you most likely are not on steroids to begin with.

I absolutely agree with Dr. Nguyen - I read the question too quickly!
