This is not a medical term. I think you are probably talking about adrenal insufficiency.
This basically means that the adrenal gland is not producing enough of the hormones and chemicals that it should. Reasons include severe life-threatening stress, hemorrhage into the glands, withdrawal from taking other steroids, or tumor infiltration. Fortunately the adrenal hormones can be replaced.

In these cases the person is usually very ill and there are good tests to look into these conditions.

In brief: A description
While not a medical diagnosis, the term adrenal fatigue had been used to describe a constellation of symptoms that are proposed to be a result of compromised adrenal response.
The symptoms may include profound fatigue, light headedness, cravings and sugar intolerances. Because these symptoms may herald other medical issues, including addison's disease, they should be investigated by your doctor.

In brief: Multifactorial
Adrenal fatigue is a multifactorial consequence of hormonal, immune system and nervous system dysfunction resulting from genetic predispositions and dietary and environmental insults.
These factors stress your adrenal glands beyond their ability to respond and dysfunction occurs poor diet, suboptimal sleep, food and other allergies contribute.

A theory, not proven & adrenal failure (Addison's Disease) is life threatening, a work up & appropriate txt by an endocrinologist. Decreased adrenal function has been described in patients and can also be life threatening in stress situations & again needs approp eval & TX. Right now "Adrenal Fatigue" is a catch all for the above sx's, likely mult things. Research into "Adrenal Fatigue" do needed!
