In brief: Viral infection

CMV (cytomegalovirus) usually does not produce an overt infection in healthy people, but in those who are immunocompromised (as in end-stage renal disease, hiv, different forms of cancer) the infection can become serious.
If a shunt is infected, it will need treatment and you will have to talk to your doctor about this. Is this a av shunt for dialysis, or a different shunt?
