Pesticide. Mitotane is a pesticide that can be taken orally. It causes destruction of the adrenal cortex and has been shown to be effective in adrenocortical carcinomas that are not able to be resected surgically.
It is rare. Cure by surgery is some cases, chemotherapy mitotane, ortho-para ddd, a compound related to ddt, and aminogluthamide are used as palliatives. Most tumors produce excess. Coticosteroids, and that produces cushing-like state.
What do you suggest if my mom has adrenal gland cancer and a brain tumor and is taking the drug mitotane what is it?
Mitotane. Hi. Mitotane specifically kills adrenocortical cells (including adrenocortical cancer cells). It can help in the treatment of inoperable adrenocortical cancer (ACC). ACC doesn't usually metastasize to brain...is her brain tumor independent of her ACC? Good luck to her!
My mom has adrenal gland cancer and a brain tumor and is taking the drug mitotane. What does this drug do?
Slows the adrenal. Mitotane slows down the production steroid chemicals, which is the function of the adrenal gland. That's why it is used to treat patients with adrenal cancer.
