Whats the difference between herpes and coldsores?

Herpes = cold sores. The virus that causes cold sores is called herpes simplex. There are two types of herpes simplex (type i and type ii). In the past, herpes type i usually caused the cold sores, and type ii caused the genital sores. Now both types are found in both places.
