Optho: how to diagnosis glaucoma when pressure normal pressure and why do these patients take travatan?
Other testing. In addition to pressure measurements - which can be 'normal' in some cases, glaucoma is diagnosed by evaluating the damage caused to the optic nerve. This can be tested with visual field testing, optic nerve analysis using oct/hrt/gdx and serial stereo photographs. If damage is occurring, pressure lowering is the treatment. Travatan is a pressure lowering drop.
Glaucoma. Optic cupping is diagnostic of glaucoma with or without increase intraocular pressure. They also check for visual field (denotes advancing disease). Pressure could be normal un 50% of cases, early on. This meds increase the outflow of aqueous humor in the eye, hence decreasing pressure on optic nerve cup.
