I have been taking Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) for 4yrs. I feel like I can't remember anything I study. Why is this? It helps me focus, be alert andkeep on track...

New or old problem? You didn't indicate whether your problem with remembering things is new or has been true even since you started the adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine). Stimulants don't have a specific benefit for short-term working memory, which is where we store material we study. If it used to help but isn't any longer, then definitely worth talking to your doctor about the problem. If always a problem, may need a study coach.
Becoming immune. You may be immune to the effects of the adderal now, so it is less effective. Maybe your dr can increase the dose, or change you to vyvanse, (lisdexamfetamine) or another drug. Dont forget your diet either- the feingold program, at feingold.Org, has helped many people with adhd, without drugs!

Their decision. I imagine the decision is one a hospital would make according to their own best practice/ethical guidelines. If they take their responsibility seriously, they might need to do their own evaluation for treatment they provide. This could be especially true w/ a drug that is often abused. I hope you've learned to keep better records from this experience. Some don't suffer severe or long withdrawal. Read more...

It depends. It depends a bit on age but there are at least 2 or 3 classes of "non-stimulant" medicines used in adhd. These include Alpha agonists like Clonidine and Tenex (usually used more in kids than adults), some antidepressants (like wellbutrin) and at least one unique medication called strattera (atomoxetine). How do I know if I need adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine)? I can't focus at school. My friend got some the day he went to the dr. My mom says I don't need it. Should I go 2 dr?

Reasons 4 distract'n. Many things in life r distracting. Not all of them r adhd. Anxiety, depression, family problems, trying to do more than is humanly possible, all can cause loss of focus. We are told we shd be able to "multitask, " but we can't. The term comes from computers, ; they can't without more than 1 processor. We only get 1 processor. Get an evaluation w/ a therapist who is not already convinced it's adhd. Read more...

What can I buy that helps me focus like adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine)? Focus formula?

Not likely . Over the counter formulas can provide some benefit and can be tried first. Unfortunately they do not usually provide the same effect as prescription stimulants. Probably nothing. More information as to why you don't want Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) would help. A thorough evaluation by your physician, and then a clear discussion with him or her would be your best choice.
