Yoga has a spiritual aspect and tradition also -- depending on where it is taught (yoga studio, gym, private lesson, etc) there may be more exposure to this part. Stretching and flexibility exercises are generally focused more directly on "exercise". A good yoga teacher should work with you to find postures (asanas) that are helpful for you, and not hurt you.
