What are the side effects of vancomycin antibiotics?

See below. All drugs carry the risk of side effects and toxicities. Vancomycin can cause a variety of skin rashes and allergies. If infused too rapidly it can cause a histamine release "red man syndrome" and can cause IV site phlebitis. If given in doses too high for the level of kidney function renal insufficiency and hearing problems can develop. Low white blood cell and platelet counts can occur.
