It does help. Vytorin (ezetimibe and simvastatin) is a combination of Simvastatin and ezetimibe. Simvastatin lowers cholesterol by decreasing the livers production of cholesterol. I have slightly high cholesterol female 51 yrs old. I regularly exercise eat fairly healthy. Simvastatins caused aches pains & welchor no good please ad?

Depends... ...On how high the LDL cholesterol is, and what other risk factors for cardiac disease you may have. Many patients who get aches with one statin are able to tolerate another. Most aches go away within a week or two. I would suggest discussing trying another statin with your pcp. Read more...
Eat less animal fat. For slightly high cholesterol, you can change your diet by decreasing your carbs and dairy intake since that seems to be a bigger source of animal fat for women than eating beef/pork and can change your ldl. Also, adding exercise, fiber through more plants, red yeast rice found in canada since they still have the statin like part, and cholestoff found at drug stores. Also use coq10 before statin. I manage high cholesterol with Simvastatin RX. At what point should I do a heart stress test to gauge heart health?

Symptoms? Some experts suggest:If no known heart disease&no symptoms to suggest angina(eg exertional chest pain/trouble breathing),then a risk factor like high cholesterol isn't enough to get a stress test.Reasoning:A(+)test likely would be a false(+),leading to unneeded invasive procedures & maybe complications. In other words, risks of stress test > benefits.Note, though:No one single rule applies to all. Yes, they are. There is ample evidence that Simvastatin helps reduce cardiac and vascular problems in higher risk persons (especially if a strong family history or diabetes exist). Attempts should first be made to assess your general health and risk, modify your dietary habits, engage in exercise, and see how much you improve before turning to meds. If risk exists, these meds can help reduce the inflammation. Read more...

Lipoproteins (proteins which transport all fats in the water outside cells) is the correct issue for artery disease (e.g. Ldl ?700 nmol/l, HDL ?45 µmol/l). Study: nusi.Org, lustig. Read more...
Muscle Aches/others. Primary side effects of statins in general are muscular, either aches, or in more severe cases ( and less common) muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis) which can lead to kidney failure and can be life threatening. Statins can also increase the risk of diabetes, primarily in those at risk for diabetes, and this does not seem to offset the benefits in those who qualify for statin therapy. See addtional.
