In brief: High amylase
In pancreatitis amylase and lipase are both elevated more than three times the normal level, but amylase can be elevated without having pancreatitis.
It can be elevated in cholicystitis, kidney failure, tumors of pancreas, salivary glands, prostate, lung and ovaries. It may be be elevated after ERCP procedure, and some medications can cause elevation of amylase and very high triglycerides can cause pancre.
