Pathology

In brief: Intrinsic pathway of

Clotting. The process of coagulation follows two pathways, and pt measures the constituents of the extrinsic pathway and PTT measure the constituents of intrinsic pathway.
There is a common final pathway for both sides. The tests help in diagnosing the type of coagulation abnormality, e.g., pt is prolonged on treatment with coumadin/warfarin and PTT is prolonged with heparin.
