In brief: Diet and/or insulin

Diet and safe exercise are most important in the management of gestational diabetes, and often these alone can control the condition.
Insulin, and in some cases oral diabetic medication, can be added if diet & exercise are not providing adequate control. Mothers should check their blood sugars several times daily and keep a glucose log to bring to OB appointments.
