In brief: Most are not!
Curiously, most us osteopaths do not practice osteopathic manipulation, the original basis of their profession; most practice only allopathic medicine.
But a minority do practice manipulation with great skill. While there are many fine chiropractors, many are not so great. I find my patients get more consistent benefits from osteopaths, whose technique is gentle. See www.Academyofosteopathy.Org/.

I hate to disagree with Dr. Baker. I have never run into a fine chiropractor. IMHO they are quacks. There is NO scientific basis for the foolishness they foist on the public. Started by a grocer who had a vision after a seizure in Iowa? Are you kidding me? DOs receive a fine education. I have worked with (and been trained by) many of them. Stay away from them. Only bad things can come from their treatment.

In brief: Big difference
Osteopaths are fully trained physicians that have extra training in spinal manipulation and massage to complement their general knowledge and skills.
Chiropractors are limited massage therapists functioning under an outmoded theory proven wrong over many years. They are not doctors, cannot diagnose or cure but simply deliver a deep massage as their only treatment mode.
