In brief: Subtle changes
Laughter, smiling, a positive attitude and all forms of enjoyment cause slight subtle changes in body chemistry which can help healing, but alone are certainly not enough to change the outcome of a major illness such as cancer.
(similarly, bad attitude alone does not cause disease.) but each of these tiny changes gives us a little boost to help immune system and help tolerate difficult treatments.
