I believe you are referring to the hybrid capture hpv test.
As you mention, it only tests for high risk hpv strains (the strains that have been most associated with cervical cancer). It does not test for the myriad of low risk hpv strains that are considerably less associated with cervical cancer. Your obgyn should know whether his/her referral lab uses this test.
