In brief: Stimulates acid
Gastrin: a hormone made in pancreas, stimulates acid production; more acid tamps down gastrin production-balancing act.
Lack of acid production from meds, eg ppis (nexium (esomeprazole) etc), stomach problems (atrophic gastritis) , kidney disease will incr gastrin levels. Incr. Gastrin levels from tumors can incr. Stomach acid production, overcome body defenses, and cause ulcers. Most ulcers not from xs acid.
